I have some neighbors that grossly mistreat their dogs and I have filed several complaints and it appears they are finally going to have to pay for what they're doing to these animals.

This has got me thinking though and how are these for some new doggie laws? lol

1.) All litters of puppies must be reported to the county at birth. If a dog has more than 1 "oops" litter, that dog's owner will be ordered to spay their animal.

2.) All puppies must cost at least 50 dollars to prevent people who can't afford to take care of them from bringing them home because they're "cute."

3.) Puppy litters should be taxed based on number of puppies and frequency of litters born.

4.) Anyone who does not follow the above stated rules would face a year in jail.

I know this will probably never happen, but wouldn't it be great if it DID?

Puppy litters would have to be planned ahead of time- only 1 litter per year per mama dog and the mommy and daddy's name on file at the courthouse lol

Responsible breeders don't have problems keeping their dogs apart when they're in heat. There's this great invention out now called KENNELS.. and an even better thing out called SPAYING AND NEUTERING for those of us that choose not to breed ;)

"good" breeders wouldn't mind paying the extra fees because they're not in it for love of the money, but love of the breed.
I know this because I breed Cocker Spaniels :)

What would make it an "oops" litter????? Look at all the idiots here that breed mutts ON PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It still would not stop the idiots. They could "plan" ahead to leave their female outside to be "gotten" by the next passing male.

The other problem is that this would take a LOT of money and therefore there would be HIGHER fees to license dogs. Not always a BAD thing, but as a "good" breeder, I do not want higher or more fees. The fees should be paid by the people who spend ZERO on the dog, and just make money!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the people who do not license now, still will not. So, the good people who follow the rules would just be furthur penalized.

I very much mind paying extra fees!!!!!!!!!!! I licence my dogs. I see people all the time that do not. I pay HUGE show entry fees and handler fees, big vet bills and OFA fees......all to insure that my dog are correct and healthy examples of their breed. I do not need more government intervention to make me pay more when they can just collect the fee and we get nothing but the headache for policing the idiots that will just find a way around the rules to begin with. They already do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can not be in it for the money and still not want to pay extra fees!!! I do not need to be more in the red due to having to pay for big brother to oversee the idoits!!!!! That doesn't make me a bad breeder!!!!!
If you do it the right way, you don't need someone checking up on you all the time!!! And since good breeders are already in the hole all the time....extra fees could very well put some of them under all the way. Do we want to lose more good breeders????

The problem with breeder licensing and mandatory S/N laws is that they don't work. They punish the 'good' breeders and have little or no effect on the people that are the problem

I.E. - look at LA county. The show breeders are hiding out with their intact dogs as if they are common criminals! The careless owners don't care enough about their animals to bother complying, and the thugs just plain don't care if they are law abiding. These types of laws DO NOT WORK.

If animal control would actually ENFORCE leash laws that would have a HUGE impact on not only dog attacks, but unwanted litters as well. MANY unwanted litters are born because the owners are too stupid or lazy to keep their dogs from making their own breeding decisions out on the streets.

Leash laws work! I know your heart is in the right place, but breeder licensing and MSN laws only punish the law abiding, caring owners!

I believe breed specified legislation are ridiculous in each and every approach. Why must my good knowledgeable and good behaved Dobermans be punished while they have got performed not anything flawed and I am a dependable puppy proprietor? Their simplest crime is watching frightening. I recognize poodles that frighten extra men and women than my puppies. I believe that there must be specified necessities to possess a specified breed, such as you have got to take a category or the puppy has to move a well dog citizen direction. Then upon getting an hindrance along with your puppy, you lose that proper to possess a puppy. Period. But any individual that has certainly not had any disorders must now not lose their proper due to the fact that of a couple of bozos. Those legislation simplest punish the dependable ones and it is flawed.

I agree with you. Our neighbors are doing the same thing.Having puppies all over the place, it's not monitored, they can't care for them, they don't have sufficient area for them, they won't clean up after them, they shouldn't even be allowed to have them!We have one dog, a beautiful, beautiful Border Collie. She is the center of both our lives. If I were to die and come back as a dog, I'd like to be a dog that has owners like us.(my husband, you, and myself, and families who just love dogs)

Those are AWESOME ideas 'cause like some people do that to kittens too I though of one:When purchasing a dog (or puppie) they must get 1 large bag of food,2 food and water bowls,1 leash and 1 bed.

I have personally believed that people should have to have an actual LICENSE to own DOGS in partcular. I don't mean having to get your dogs city tags, I mean you have to prove you understand what it takes to be a responsible dog owner, and in cases of neglect or other abuse you should lose your license for life.

Just like the dog license &leash laws the responsible people get it in the teeth and the irresponsible ones just claim ^not my dog^ & skate off scott free.

I can see where you're coming from, but um- no. What about the abandoned or lost puppies?

Incentives to get people to spay or neuter their animals would be better.
