I have a 2 1/2 year old Yorkie. She doesn't shed at all. I spend a few minutes brushing her every couple of days when her hair gets longer and I do take her to the groomer every few weeks. She's energetic and definitely likes daily playtime. After that, she's satisfied and keeps herself busy. She has a habit of 'burying' things around the house. It's not unusual to find her toys or treats 'buried' in a basket of laundry. I thought it was quite strange, but have talked to others whose Yorkies also do this. Now, it's just funny to watch. She's a definite joy to have around. So if you don't mind grooming and playtime, it could be a great addition to your life.

Country of Origin: England.

Size: Shoulder height: Weight is: 2 - 3 kg (4.5 - 6.5 lbs).

Coat: Consists of very long, silky hair. The color is golden-brown wtih steel-grey.

Character: Yorkshire Terriers become very attached to their families. They are lively, intelligent and bark when they sense danger.

Temperament: This dog is tolerant of children, provided that they respect its territory. It can be a bit too brave occasionally when dealing with larger dogs but gets along fine with cats and other household pets.

Care: Intensive brushing and combing of the coat is required on a daily basis. If this is too time-consuming, the coat should be trimmed professionally. The hair is kept out of the eyes by a rubber band or a bow. The ears must be checked and loose hairs must be removed from ear passages.

Training: If training is consistent, this breed will learn quickly.

Activity: The exercise needs of this dog are uncomplicated. It will adapt itself to the activity level of your family.

They shed, and the coat requires a lot of brushing, or you need to get them clipped. Many people do that since they do not want the daily coat maintenance.

They don't shed much, but I have Pekingese and they get so many tangles with long hair. A good small terrier is a Toy fox terrier( smooth). I just got one and It has not done one bad thing yet.
