That is not a problem. The only problem is the conflict with tradition. By tradition the best man and bridesmaid are witnesses. Witnesses have to be adults. They just have to find other witnesses.

Young children do often take the covetted role of Maid of Honor or Best Man...however, those chosen for these positions are the ones who sign the wedding certificate as witnesses. The children will NOT be able to sign as they are not of age yet...so someone else has to sign in their place. It is also the duty of the Best Man to hold onto the rings for the groom...in all honesty, I wouldn't trust a 9 or 12 year old for the job.
If you really want to include the kids, create another short ceremony during which you present the kids with specials gifts (a locket or other keepsake for each of them) in front of your guests...it is easier and much better for everyone involved. Also, some churches do not allow young children to act as BM or MH so it depends on where you are getting married also.

YES!! That would mean a lot to the children for sure!! you should never leave the children out al all. get them involved, this lets them know and feel excepted. From both side, the step mom and their dad. If a father thinks that there son should be his best man, this means that his son means that much to him, and if he wants his daughter to be the bridesmaid, this mean the same, how wonderful of a father to think of his children in that way. God bless him, he seems like he would is a great father and will be a great husband!

At my uncle's wedding his daughter was the maid of honour. His fiance's son was a groomsman (usher) because he wasn't old enough to be the best man. (to sign the papers as a witness he would have to be 18)
It was the second marriage of both people(not to each other). It made the whole family a part of everything and helped stress that this was a union of families not just two people. (they have been a happy family since and its been 12 yrs.)

I don't imagine that at that age it would be appropriate to have them stand up for you as a maid of honour, nor a best man. These people generally sign your marriage certificate and are standing up for you. As for bridesmaid or groomsman, sure why not. I was a flower girl at my own parents wedding when I was 8.

Absolutely. I've officiated ceremonies with children standing up for their parents. Because Michigan state law does not require the witnesses to be of a certain age, they can even sign the marriage license.
The world is a big place, lots of room for new traditions to spring up and including children in the wedding ceremony is a growing tradition all over.

Anything goes today. Son gives mom away. Son is best man for dad. Daughter is maid of honor for mom. Kids are bride and groom's ring bearers. The choices are endless.
