גבריאל, or with vowel marks: גַּבְרִיאֵל

It means "man of god" (גבר= man, אל= god).

Strong's Hebrew Lexicon says that it is from word #1397 geber (pronounced gheh'-ber)a valiant man or warrior; generally, a person simply:--every one, man, X mighty and 'el' which is God (Father).

In essence, Gabriel means God's valiant one. (very loosely)
