I can tell you from first hand experience it's no fun. I ruptured L5-S1 many years ago and had to have surgery. I'd say I recovered to about 95% after wards. There are some new techniques now that you may have a better chance of staying healthy than I did. I have since ruptured L3-4 and had another surgery. Now I have degenerative disc disease and have to take meds every day. I tried a Chiropractor with no success. I'd do whatever the doctor said if I were you. See a good neurosurgeon.

I feel so so sorry for you, Please do not let them operate on you. I have a failed back and had the same exact thing. I had a Fusion of L5and S1 and since then so much has resulted from it. Look for a good Ortho doc and get a second opinion. I have now have resulting from that A failed Bladder and getting around is horrible. Bowel movements are terrible. I find that chiropractic service's help a little and that coupled together with 60mg 3 times daily just so that I can get around. Have they tried Injections of prednidsone and lanacain injections. I have that once a month and it helps as well.

Have you tried therapy with it. My husband just had back surgery so I would not recommend it to you at your age. I would try everything possible to not do surgery. Some people say that if you could get in a hot tub and sit in it for about 30 minutes and do a few exercises that it helps. But if all else fells find a great surgeon with a great record doing the surgery and consult them.
