Cardio, Cardio, Cardio. It's best to lose weight with cardio. If you lift weights, that helps too but also adds bulk to your figure. I say lose weight first by strict cardio and a healthy diet with a lot of protein. When you get close to your ideal weight, start lifting. That will sculpt your figure. It is important to eat protein when you are done excercising because it feeds your muscles. Tuna is a great source of protein (one of my favorites for losing weight) Just remember your muscles have memory. If you were fit before, you can be it again. Running is the best way that I have found in dropping the pounds fast. Drink a lot of water. Stay away from creamy stuff, and white bread and pasta. If you have trouble starting, try 10 minutes a day for 3 days, then up it to 15 minutes and so on. It only takes 21 days to build habit, after that it's like second nature. Give yourself atleast 2 weeks before you start weighing and critisizing yourself. At first you will be losing water weight, then your body will be gaining muscle which will make you 'gain' weight when in actuality you are getting slimmer because muscle weighs more than fat. The scale can be very deceiving, it's better to measure your weight loss by using measurments instead.

The fastest and most effective way to loose the layers of fat on top of your muscles is to jog or run. You can work out all day long, but until that is gone, you won't see a lot of muscle definition. (The appearance of said muscle will help you stay motivated) At the gym do exercises that work more than one muscle (think squats, lunges, and free weights) Check out a free website like sparkpeople.com to point you in the right direction. I especially love their nutrition section where I can print off a healthy grocery list. Drink your water (8 cups) its amazing how that alone flushes fat and toxins out of your body. Your skin will glow. Good luck

Swimming is the best - for heart, muscle toning and relaxation.
It's a combination of cardio, yoga and resistance training all in one. I'm talking about doing laps in a relaxed way increasing speed as you become stronger always integrating your breathing. I loose ten lbs every summer this way. Plus it FEELS good.

Change you're life style.
Stop eating fast food / drinking soda all the time. Seriously identify the habits you have that are bad for you're health and make a plan to reduce their impact.
Exercise seems to have the highest impact (for me) when I alternate the focus of my workout.
* Daily cardio
* Twice a week upper body and abs
* Twice a week lower body and abs
