This is hard to answer without knowing why they are being so mean to the other child-which is awful! Is the other child's mom visiting the school about this problem? I hope so. Does your daughter still want to be friends with the little girl? If she does, I would let nature take it's course. But I would definitely let your little girl know exactly how cruel the other are being, and what it would feel like if it were reversed. Never to early to start learning about "feelings". Kids can be so cruel huh?

well the reason that the other kids dont like her is cause she is overweight. kids that age dont know a thing about epilepsey. But when a kid appears "ugly" they dont want to be friends with her. your daughter, who is probably really pretty, sees over her friends weight and that is a great thing. At her age so can usually figure it out by herself it is a stage of life. She is gonna be friends with this girl no matter what, but she may not want to play with her at school in front of the other kids. If she makes that desicion, she will learn that she is wrong, i know you will feel bad for the other girl. but your daughter has to learn respondsiblity. You can just only hope that she will make the right desicion and play with her friend even though the kids dont want her to. And whether you think they understand that or not, the other kids will respect her for it.

Even though peer pressure is hard explain to her that she doesn't have to do and listen to what everybody says. She has a mind of her own and if she wants to stay friends with that girl then she should and not let anyone stop her. If those friends want to keep her as a friend they'll understand but if not oh we'll she can find new friends. You can also ask her how would she feel if she was in that girls shoes? Wouldn't her feelings be hurt? This is where you can teach her to have a mind of her own and also not to listen to peer pressure. Good luck!

You might want to also talk to their teacher about the problem and ask if there is a book the teacher can read to the students that addresses this issue. They might want to have a class discussion about it as well (but not about the 2 girls specifically). I've found this to be an extremely helpful way to address social problems in my classroom. I can usually guide them to the "correct" way of thinking with relative ease, and when students at this age really start to think about it, they realize what the right thing to do is and change their tune on their own. They're still very sweet and childlike at this age (I teach 3rd grade), and when they realize they're being jerks, especially the girls, they want to fix it. They have a need to nurture and protect one another when they really want to. Best wishes!

She should be friends with who she wants. What might also help is if the school would have the teacher explain what is like to be disabled( for the other girls sake) P.S. My son was epileptic and was teased, now he is bipolar and is still teased to this day.
They{the school can get pamplets on how toexplain different disabilities to school age children

I would tell her that she needs to be friends with the people SHE wants to be friends with, not the people others think she should be friends with.
Tell her it doesn't matter what others say or think, all that matters is that she likes this girl and they have a great time together.

your daughter should be friends with the people she wants to be friends with (aka her best friend).
my advice for your daughter is to stick up for her best friend to the other girls, not necessarily be mean to them, but tell them that they're friends, and that if they want to be friends with her, they should accept her friend too.
i know from experience, it's better to have that one good friend than to have a million acquantances.
good luck! =]
