Try a straightener with pure ceramic or jade plates. The Sedu straightener on www.folica.com has rave reviews. I have also heard that Redken's So Straight line is good. Or you could buy a fancy wide barrel curling iron and tame your curls into big waves, which is in style right now!
I have difficult hair and used to straighten it, but just gave up because I got tired of spending so much time on it to just wash it a day later. If you style your hair curly, you don't have to worry about it getting wet and curling, coz it's already curly!

If you check out your local drugstore you'll be able to find shampoo/conditioner for straight hair. The bottles will have clear labels on them according to what you are looking for! (I know there are some for straight hair, curly, wavy, etc.)
