Consider your room your personal space which your possessions are invited into, or not. Best to start by taking everything out and make a decision for every item you have as follows.
Create a box for "Friends", the things you welcome into your space, that you love and that you use, think are beautiful. Create a box for "Strangers," which are the things you wouldn't invite back but could be of some use to someone else. Create a box for "Aquaintences", those you could invite to your space, provided you love them enough and there's room.
Remember it's OK to let things go that you do not love or do not use. It's even OK to let it go if someone special gave it to you. You owe it to yourself in today's day and age to let things go since having enough is generally no longer a problem.
Once you put limits on what you want back, consider getting collapsible storage, cloth boxes, or stacking boxes/racks for what you love and use. I use open cloth boxes and lidded cloth boxes, and I have two racks for shoes (one stacking and one over-the-door).
For seasonal items, such as sweaters and that sort of thing, make sure they're stored safely and out of the way.

I got one of those mesh hanging circle things from IKEA ($6) and put all my stuffed animals in it and hung it from the ceiling -- looks much neater. A closet organizer helps free up space for not just clothes.
Some under the bed storage containers? I've seen people put wheels on old dresser drawers for this . . .
Plus the holiday season is a great time to purge anything that hasn't been used or touched in over a year . . .

i just packed away my stuffed animals, u don't have to get rid of them! go through them and pick out your favorites, (like 1-5) and the have those. ten go through all your other stuff and think to yourself, do i really need this? also get some hat boxes, they are a good storage place and they stack and save space and they are decoritive! also get like a small little 3 drawer bin is always nice.

Buy some packing / moving boxes that are all the same size.
Pack the crap in, label, close it and stack it in an unused room
or corner. It wont solve the problem of too much crap, but at
least it will all be neatly stacked.

Maybe you should give away that stuff. And get things that suits your age. Because your room should reflect who you are.
