i think it depends upon the base you are at...my husband was navy before coast guard and the naval base had a center where spouses could take math & english classes for free...those teachers are not Harvard teachers but they do their job

when we were on a base in Connecticut, the educational center had counselors from most university and schools...of course they had distance learning schools like University of Phoenix which is a great school for military spouses because you dont have to disenroll and re-enroll everytime you move...

we are stationed at a tiny tiny base in florida now and there is no educational officer, there isnt even an exchange and it sucks...i have opted to do the distance learning, most of its selfpaced so you can study when you have time and not have to stick to a teachers schedule...

if you know where your next duty station is, get the web address or do a search for it, then you can locate the numbers for the educational office...not every base as the same things on it so please keep that in mind...

military.com has alot of great resources too...good luck

FYI- if the coast guard ever told you that your spouse can use your GI Bill, its a myth...most people still think that you can transfer that over to a spouse but Congress passed a law where that is no longer possible...believe me, we have tried to do that already and got the truth about the so called "dependant tuition assistance thru GI Bill"
