I have had nervous ticks since i was 13. I am 25 now, and I have mostly learned to live with it but lately the ticks or muscle spasms have been lasting for days, and if it stops it just starts up in another place. So if you can imagi having parts of you body move on its on over and over again, like my thumb, or the middle of my arm extc. its literally driving me crazy. Most of the time im just sitting around holding it so that I can feel it less. I have had thoughts of just getting a knife and cutting the parts that jump. I know it sounds crazy but what ever its making me crazy. I went to my doctor and he told me in alsmost these exact words, is that there are no medicines out there for these problems. And no one is going to pay billions of dollars to research a medicine to help cure a problem that is that rare. Then he gave me some Lexapro he said it should help me come down as far as stress over time, but the Lexapro was just making me feel even more insane along with the tic

This can be a result of a number of neurological problems. Talk to a neurologist. It can be an actual neurological problem or, if you're taking any new or exsisting meds, dispite noticing the tics at 13, they could be contributors. Good luck!

Did you give the Lexapro long enough to work? At least a month? Someone suggested Tourette syndrome, but you wouldn't have a Tourette tic in the middle of your arm. And with Tourette's, you can control the tics for a short time. They are more like rapid eyeblinking, neck twisting, sniffing and clearing throat. The treatment would have been the same, Lexapro or some other type of antidepressant.

Have you asked him to see if you have turettes. Turettes can cause people to have uncontrolled ticks. I would go to another dr and get a second opinion. I would not give up go to as many dr. as you can to find out what is going on.
