i would assume that the cherries would be sweet enough. do you know why they add the sugar?

a lot of the sugar comes out with the juice, leaving them a little tart. since the manufacturer expects most people won't read the pkg, they add sugar. let's face it, most people out there are addicted to sugar.... which means more sales. you can find a non-sweetened dried cherry (and a bunch of other non-sweetened fruits) in the produce section of the supermarket, but they're mostly from small independent companies, which makes them much more expensive (most of the small companies make them without preservatives, too.)
