i found an egg in the woods, except it has already been open. Whatever it is has already hatched. It is 2 1/2 inches long, by 1 7/8 inches wide. It looks to me like a great horned, or a barred owl egg, but i really don't know. It is slightly elliptical, and i don't think it is a chicken egg, because my egg is more elliptical. I really don't know what it is, and it is slightly rough to touch, and it is pure white. It is kind of old, wich made the color a little yellow. It is still pure white, it just got a small hint of yellow? it will remain a mystery??????

It is VERY hard to identify eggs without some clues like a nest or bird nearby. I can tell you that owls eggs are more rounded or blunt-ended, not ellipitical, and smooth feeling. Some duck eggs can be slightly elliptical, and shorebird eggs are very elliptical. Shorebirds eggs are usually rough to the touch. Not sure where you live or what kind of birds are found in your area, but hope this helps.

Unless you can associate it with a nest, a medium sized white egg could be an awful lot of things.

This could be bird or reptile such as tortise or lizard. Good question keep it up.
