I just bought the book "Flags of our Fathers", but I once read part of another book about Iwo Jima and I really liked it, but I can't remember the title or the author. My uncle died there and today is Veteran's Day, which reminded me of this.

There have been a number of books about the battle and they are still available.

The best book is probably "Iwo Jima" by Richard F. Newcomb

Here are some others:

"Iwo Jima: Legacy of Valor" by Bill D. Ross
"Utmost Savagery" by Joseph Col Alexander
"God Isn't Here: A Young American's Entry into World War II and His Participation in the Battle for Iwo Jima" by Richard E. Overton
Iwo Jima: Portrait of a Battle: United States Marines at War in the Pacific by Eric Hammel

The best book on the battle for Iwo Jima is "Iwo". It tells the story of both sides of the battle. I read it while I was serving in Special Forces, 30+ years ago, and I couldn't put it down: It's like reading the "Flags of our fathers", and" Letters from Iwo Jima " in one book..totally excellent!.
