If it were me, I'd wait until your child is born and 9-12 months old before getting a dog. That's for two reasons.
First, you are going to be EXHAUSTED from just having a baby, and you're not going to want to have to feed, wash, walk, play with, train a dog, particularly if it's still a pup (less than 12 months old). Trust me on this one - I had the same thought, did it, and regretted it.
Second, some pets get jealous after a baby is born. The pet goes from having all of the attention to having nearly none because of this little new thing in the house that sucks up all your time and attention.
I think a Jack Russel is a great dog for kids, but I'd wait, for your own sanity, and so the pup and the kid bond because, it sounds as if that's what you'd want anyway!
And congrats on the baby!

I guess every dog is different, but my parents have a jack russel. Their dog is very jealous of my 1 year old niece. When she is over he'll pee in the house. If you're about to have a baby I think there is way better dogs out there. Just do research before you buy a dog. Usually dog trainers will give you free puppy advice. Good Luck!

Jack Russel Terriers are of the terrier groups of dogs. Any terrier is hyper. You can't train them that well to be quiet, but they are cute and make wonderful pets. With children I don't know. I guess maybe someone on here will have the answer for you.

It depends on the dog, but overall they're good with kids.
BUT:
They are super smart and super stubborn. Everything is a battle of wills with them and they need a firm hand training them.
The first year of a dog's life, and the first year of a baby's life are so time consuming and just plain hard work, I recommend you get an adult dog or wait until the kid is older.
There are hundreds of great adult pets out there just waiting to love you and your baby. Consider it. You won't be sorry. Veterinarians will have the number of breed rescues, animal control and the SPCA. www.petfinder.com also has lots of great animals. These dogs are temperment tested, inexpensive with lots of "extras", and you're saving a life. Can't beat that.
Cheers.

My daughter has a two year old Jack Russell, but she doesn't have any children, When we take him somewhere like Petsmart they always pet him and he's great with them. They are very hyper, but he is the smartest animal I've ever seen. My friends wish their grand kids minded as well as he does.

Terriers, of any breed, are very tenacious, territorial, and usually attach themselves to one individual. I would not recommend a Jack Russel for young children. If you want to keep to a smaller breed, you might want to go for a beagle. They are fiercely loyal and good with children. I have a Golden Retriever that is wonderful with my two-year-old.

they variety, I truthfully have regularly occurring 2 that have been effective. even though I truthfully have been bitten 4 situations from canines, as quickly as from a border collie i grew to become into helping pass out of a hectic highway after an accident, as quickly as by ability of a few crossbreed (terrier sized yet uncertain what) and two times by ability of Jack Russellls. as quickly as whilst i grew to become into approximately 6, the different time i grew to become into 15. in case you get from a rescue they specially circumstances comprehend if the animals are solid with infants and different animals, the different determination is to pass to a breeder and see what the mums temperament is like around your toddler. A Mum with a solid temperament is greater probably to pass it directly to the doggies.

JRT are high maintenance... in that they are soooo energetic. Yes, they are great with kids since they are small, compact and can keep up with their active life styles. however, when the kids are at school, you may have to keep the little guy busy. they love to exercise and they are great "mousers".. so be prepared for the occasional gift of squirrels, rabbits, mice and birds left on your doorstep.

I haven't had this kind of dog before but you can always get in the internet and look at history of this kind of dog. You can also give some vets a call and ask questions. Good luck
