Get some cans and boxes of food, cups, saucers, wooden spoons (all unbreakable) let her play kitchen. This helped me a lot whan I babysat.
If it's nice outside, collect things, pine cones, leaves, wild flowers. make wreaths.
Let her style your hair then you can braid hers. Look up different animals on the internet.

You need to find ways to keep them both entertained and since the 1yr old is probably a handful too and the six year old is just louder here are some projects you can have the six yr old help you make and "teach" the baby how to play with:
Gather all the ingredients and let the 6yr old help you mix:
Caution: use soybutter or almond butter if either child is peanut allergic:
1> Title: Peanut butter clay
Categories: Miamiherald, Kids, Edible
Yield: 10 Creatures
1 c Creamy peanut butter
1 1/2 c Instant powdered milk (can use dry formula if you have no powdered milk)
3 tb Honey
Peanuts, raisins, chocolate
-chips and coconut for
-decorating (opt)
Stir the peanut butter, powdered milk and honey together in a
medium-size bowl until dough is smooth. If it's dry add more honey; if it's too moist add more powdered milk. Kids can form form it into critters of their choice, then decorate their artwork with peanuts, raisins, chcolate chips or coconut. Store unused dough in the refrigerator.

2> What You Need
Plain Yogurt
Food Coloring
What You Do:
Mix the ingredients till you get the desired color and then let your children paint
They can paint a plate and lick their fingers clean.
This is not art for the fridge so be sure it is washed and tossed accordingly.
3> Have the older child "read" a favorite book to the younger one. 4> Dance the Hokey pokey
5> Have the older child bring you 2 stuffed animals and use them to act out a story for the baby.
it is important to include both children in the play this way the older child is encouraged to be a caregivcer as well to the younger sibling and it reduces friction and jealousy.
Hope this helps!

Hide and seek is endless fun. You can also play a match card game... take 20 to 30peices of paper and draw easy things like matching apples on 2 separate peices of paper and stick figures on two others (just examples) mix them up and Lay them in rows on the floor. You guys just flip till you get the matching cards taking turns. You can also create your own mixed flavor juice drinks using kool aid and juices that are on hand... Have a blast!

as the 6 yr old is of school age she shoul be used to doing as she is told at school. create a school type of atmosphere .have a desk/table and chair ready for her when she arrives and over night you can create some easy school work for her to do .also cutting and pasting is fun for young people .if the weather permits go outside and help her to make he own garden with a few marigold seeds so she can see them growing each day as she arrives at your place .make christmas decorations, you'll get into that yourself . download some kindergarten material from a kids page on your pc.help her to make greeting cards , teach her to knit, get her to help dust or sweep .play games inside or out , give her a pail of water and a paint brush and show her how to ' paint ' the house outside kids love to do that,.good luck

When I used to babysit little girls around that age I would let them play with my hair. They loved it, they would pretend they were playing Beauty Shop!! Just an idea!

Have her play something she has to set up such as Lego's, or play dough. Then you play with her for a little while. Then after a bit tell her to play alone, but ask her to show you what she has made. Kids love showing adults what they can do.
