African American is a way to identify RACE. Christian is used to describe something or someone to do with a RELIGION. (I'm not yelling; the caps are just for emphasis.) The fact that someone is of a certain race doesn't mean they are automatically a certain religion. If they're Christian, they celebrate Christmas; Muslims do Eid; Jews do Chanukah (not sure of the spellings). However, they may celebrate a different holiday instead of or as well as that of their own religion in the name of tradition. Thus, the logic of a secular Christmas.

Hey, I'm "White," and every year somebody's package doesn't get mailed on time and I Tell 'em we're gonna celebrate uhhh Quanza! And then for the person or two whose package doesn't get mailed at all, I tell 'em I've gone Jehovah's Witness. (That's kind of risky, though, because my birthday's in January.... ) Maybe this year I'll aim for Hanukkah and everybody will get something sometime.
