- Adam first, then eve.
- Jesus as son of God, what, no daughter?
- Only male priests, bishops, cardinals, and popes. Why no women controlling the direction of the church?
- Women covering themselves, but not men?
- Jesus' wife made to be a prostitute.

Is Christianity really about God, or about empowering men over women?

Would God not value us all equally, or are men really closer to god?

I can almost feel your hate of God in your words. Adam was first yes and in the Old Testament Men were esteemed above women. I guess that was a day then a man was needed to preform the work of getting a living out of the earth. Men are just stronger fact of life... The New Testament says that there is no male or female to God. That we are all the same before Him so could there be female priests, etc of course if the church doesn't do that, that's a religious thing that is man made, you can't hold God guilty for that. Jesus wasn't married, He did bring people to Himself from all walks of life, Thieves, prostitutes, tax collectors, and yes even the rules of the Hebrew Law.. Christianity is more pro-woman than any other "way" that man has tried to find God.. Jim

In Islam men and women are equal. I know this sounds weird because of everything you hear on the news these days but the media is all lies. Before Prophet Muhammad (May Peace Be Upon Him) baby girls were buried alive because they were thought to be burden. Then the Prophet asked the people who did this, what sin did this baby commit for you to do this to her. Islam gave the women the right to inheritance and it gives her the right to have her own job (so as long as it doesn't interfere with her modesty). As Muslims we believe that God doesn't have a son or daughter in his eyes we are all equal. We were made to worship only God. Men have a dress code as well they cannot show above their knees or below their navel. Also they must lower their gaze. Meaning they cannot "check women out". In Mosques there are more women and children than men. MEN AND WOMEN memorize the Quran.

Let's not forget 1 Timothy 2:11-12, Colossians 3:18, 1 Corinthians 11:3; 14:34-35, Ephesians 5:22-24, and the list goes on and on.

If you read the first creation myth in Genesis, you'll find a different story, where man and woman were created together, not one from the other.

What it really boils down to is men being unable to control their sexual urges around women. Because men have no control over themselves, they have to subjugate women and make them inferior. I refuse to worship a god that condones this sort of nonsense. I do have some self-respect.

Ok, you've got a point, believe me I've thought about all that many times, and I have asked almost the same questions, but i am one of those who think that you should have something to believe in or someone, and in my case I believe in God, however I dont believe in CHURCH, both are different things, because church, mostly the catholic, is the one that empower men over women, not christianity, both concepts are different.
Pal, women are different from men, and men are stronger in many ways, that is inevitably true but you cant think about that, and just make God guilty, women must face their responsibilities and stop being so extremely feminists. Both genders need from each other, and that is why God made us different (though they are exceptions with gays of course)

The chance of a daughter being born to a barren woman in the bible is nil. Whenever a biblical woman asked god to help her concieve, she always had a son. Remember that when the bible was written, it was a patriarchal society. The Adam and Eve story serves to show that men were first, and therefore more important. Instances of woman hating are prevalent throughout the book. When Miriam and Aaron complain, Miriam gets leprosy, but Aaron is fine. Then the whole thing about how a menstruating woman is unclean, and anyone near her is tainted too. When "Moses numbered them according to the word of the Lord" he was told to count "every male from a month old and upward." Women and girls didn't count as persons. If a man marries, then decides that he hates his wife, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they were married. If her father can't produce the "tokens of her virginity" (bloody sheets), then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. It just goes on and on and on. And yet, the christians say that God loves women, too? Do they read the OT, or just disregard it completely?

God does not value men higher than women but has given men a different purpose. Actually, before women's lib came in, I think men had so much more responsibility (supporting a family, going to war, etc) and I would not want to be a man. More rights involve more accountability and responsibility so it is a double-sided sword. Purpose is sometimes confused with equality. Man was created first and the woman was created second to be a help mate. God can do whatever he chooses - that is what makes him God.

God is masculine because all of mankind, in relation to him, constitutes the feminine.

Considering the fact that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the most highly celebrated non-divine human being, the Mother of Jesus, and the mother of the Church, neither God or his Church can be accused of relegating women to 2nd class status.

Jesus had no wife.

His bride is the whole Church, not any individual person.

Wise up!

Acorrding to Christianity, Jesus was not married, but he did know Mary Magdalene who was a prostitute, but she changed. (Did you ever hear of the "washing of the feet"? That was Mary Magdalene crying from her sins of prostitution. Jesus forgave her, and she followed Him)

Well, the male clergy thing is mostly what humans did, like Catholics. Some Catholics say that clergy is a "symbol of God", so they make them male. I do not personally agree with this, but a few denominations, like the Apiscopaleans (sp) do have some women clergy.

Adam first, then Eve. I am not one to take the Bible COMPLETELY literally, in fact, some denominations, like Catholicism and Lutheranism say that that story is symbolism. Some even go to say that the book that came from (Genesis) is really sometimes very inaccurate. They look at it as symbolism though.

In Christianity, I don't know about the covering part, but I think all sexes cover themselves! lol I only know of it in other religions.

Also, if you look deeper into the Bible, you can see that there is a story where Jesus talks to some female outcasts in society. I don't know the exact verse, but Jesus talks to a woman who is from a different social class or something, and I think she's Samaritan (not sure), but men and women do not talk to her, and he talks to her, and comforts her. (this is the woman who had like five husbands or something)

The Holy Spirit many times is referred to as a female, also.

Anyway, I think that Christianity just deals with the male symbolism of Christ. And Jesus was kind to women, and God loves everyone equally, male or female.

I fail to see who Adam being created 1st is a sign of greater value?

Jesus is a figurative son of God. Remember, God is not a literally a human man or woman.

The offices that exist in the Catholic Church you speak of are not mentioned in the Bible. It is true the Bible does make role distinctions in the church between men and women but it is not because of who is more valuable.

Women dressing in modesty is a good thing that has nothing to do with values.

Jesus didnt have a wife. And whenever he bumped into women that were engaged in sexual immorality he rebuked them. Jesus didnt choose their sinful life they did, he actually told them to leave it!

Women are valued equally in the church and in families but their roles are different. That doesnt make them any less valuable as people at all. You and your propaganda made a false assumption.

I decide upon ladies by way of their resistance to extremism. If she's balanced in all matters like my mom and dad, she's wonderful. If she's bodily capable ample to bring a 30 to 50 lb backpack and probably keep at the Appalachian Trail within the Winter for three days with me, she's surely wonderful. A approximately developed lady who is now not interested in extremism in any appreciate is wonderful. I love stability and quietness. If she demands it to be an additional journey daily, or pay lack to emotion, or something lower than touchy stability, then she's now not wonderful.
