Laughter by itself does not have a purpose. BUT, people who happen to make some progress on a spiritual path happen to laugh a bit more, heartily, consciously, and perhaps also make that laughter a bit contagious too ! A person who is stuck more into materialistic aspect loses the ability of laughter proportionately. Try and compare the deep, full throated laughter, starting from age one, to say 70 of all the people you meet around! Laughter would 'reveal' more of that child-like innocence even if a person carefully, guardedly bundle-wraps deep within oneself !

Laughter soothes the spirit, marvels the melancholy, and heals the heavy heart...
Just think, my dear Mav...where you and I would be if we weren't sitting here in front of our computers writing things to people we don't even know... This wonder of a machine has brought us together!!

Ok today on the forum I posted a question stating

Now keep in mind I went into explanation of why I was asking the question, but then forgot to write what I was asking.

I think so but my best jokes are always censored oh this might work : A gent and a young boy are hanging out and the boy asks

alas the boy complains" but I only have a nickel!"
