The answer, of course, is the Egyptian God Horus.
Stories from the life of Horus had been circulating for centuries before Jesus' birth (circa 4 to 7 BCE). If any copying of stories occurred by the writers of the Egyptian or Christian religions, it was the followers of Jesus who incorporated into his biography the myths and legends of Horus, not vice-versa.
Perhaps I've been wrong to assume you all had studied the origins of Christianty - if you haven't it would explain somewhat your devotion to it.

You are correct. the idea of the ressurected God is an idea older than Christianity.

The problem is the preachers that the fundamentalists listen to don't mention this type of thing, and the followers are not encouraged to question their faith.

Still it would be nice if they knew the origin and histiry of their beliefs.

You have it wrong.

Jesus was around forever, and only his earthly body was created a couple of thousand years ago.

Satan was put on notice that God would send a redeemer, shortly after Adam's fall.

It was no trick at all to fashion pagan worship and myth to mimick what he expected to come someday.

The one thing which sets Jesus apart from anyone else is that he actually rose again from the dead, by his own power.

Nobody else, including Horus, ever did ... or ever will.

Yes, and the Virgin Birth story existed from the adulterous Queen Semiramis and her son Tammuz, a few years after her husband Nimrod had died. According to her, Nimrod had become the sun god after his death. Rays from the sun caused her to become pregnant. The child, Tammuz, was therefore, the son of god.

So, figurines of the Madonna and Child were around long before Jesus.

What does it prove???

Here is the Christian's viewpoint: The archenemy of Jesus, Satan, had someone else pattern the foretold coming of Jesus to confuse people like you!!!

You still want to dispute the point? You can't win: Christians have an answer for everything. I'm a Christian.

If I may:
The Egyptian Horus is an image of the way Roman Catholicism portrays Jesus.
One must not assume that Roman Catholicism and Christianity are one and the same.
They are, in fact, as distant as sunrise from sunset.

you may want to look up the cult of Mithras - which also predated christianity, and contributed heavily to the christian cult dogma. it had an actual savior who preched liberal ideas to followers, a virgin birth, a torturous death, a resurrection... that's largely where the ideas of christianity came from because Mithras was still worshiped in Roman circles prior to their creation of the christ myth and its cult rituals. you can find references to Mithras on the internet -- its an interesting read once you see the parallels and realize they created the legend of jesus form that earlier cult myth (and much of Mithras also came from Horus, too -- but Mithras was heavily present in Roman cultrue when the christ cult myth was created).

you are half right.

Its not the 'life of Jesus' as written in the bible account that was patterned after Horus, but it is the modern day way that Christians BELIEVE in Jesus (as God) that is patterned after ancient Egyptian and other 'pagan' beliefs.

The Egyptian god Horus was a myth.

Jesus was a real man, seen by hundred and thousands of people. Seen by over 300 after His resurrection.

guess you have just been wrong

The devil, from the beginning has known the true Christ and the promise given by God of a Savior that was to come. There has and and always will be, culminating in the Antichrist, false christs....past religions that mock the truth. That's one of the jobs of the devil...to give you enough truth to confuse you (see what a good job he is doing?).
That's why Jesus said (paraphrasing) that if someone says that Christ is here or there, don't believe it. We know the voice of the true Shepard and He knows His flock.
And yes, I have studied History (Ancient and Church) and know of the many false gods and myths. I have chosen what I believe to be the truth.

Ahh, Brooke...you are finding, as have so many before you, that those of us who believe in a God Who is all-knowing and all-powerful have a sense of peace that cannot be taken from us by mere human logic or reason....
We have the precious naivete of children...
Frustrating, I'm sure...but please, don't let it make you angry and bitter.
