The Eygptian Book of the Dead is not one book, but a book for each person who died. It contians various spells, charms, passwords, numbers and magical formulae for the use of the deceased in the afterlife. This described many of the basic tenets of the Egyptian mythology.

The Ten commandments were given to Moses by God. They contain moral laws that all human beings need to follow in order for us to get along, and build just societies.

Your point here would be , WHAT? The creation in the Bible and the flood story are also similar to other cultures of early times. So what? What is different in Biblical creation is that there is one God involved in creation and that for 6 and a half days all He creates is so that man can live. 6 1/2 days my God devoted to created the light the air an food just for me. Then, He wanted to talk and walk with me. Also not found in Assyrian texts- the Gods wanted to destroy man.

Interesting that you should bring this up. Pick up the book "101 Myths of the Bible" by Gary Greenberg, or Google his name and read what he has to say. He connects the Bible with Egyptian mythology which is highly interesting.

Don't know if I buy into his notions. I need other theologians to comment on it first.

The two are in no way comparable, the first addresses what should be done for the deceased, the second dictates how the living should behave unless commanded otherwise.

Not too much.

Christianity took many of the principles for even more acient texts and applied their own tastes and cultural slants to create the bible.

Those that see book of the DEAD, and scream blashphemy don't know the books contents.
