To really KNOW what you are getting...get a purebreed. Otherwise, it is a crap shoot.
I have known a lot of Maltese and they all barked...a lot.
MANY little dogs charge out the door when it is opened. That is not a "breed thing", that is a TRAINING thing.
I think the whole mutt thing is funny!!!!! And another thing to remember.........there is NO dog breed that is totally NON-shedding.
Don't believe the claims by some of these "breeders" of mutts. They make a lot of claims to sell puppies!!!

Well start off by looking at health problems, some time's purebreeds have some serious ones that can be toned down by creating a "designer breed", take a pug for example their nose's create breathing problem's but mix it with a beagle and that helps the breathing. Sometime's with mixed breeds you can't be sure on temperament's, like for example i heard labridoodle's can be vicious. Honestly do some research on both the breeds, then look at both breeder's (never buy from a pet shop) then maybe take it from there the answer should come a bit more easy to you.
Personally i might go for a morkie just based on looks i don't know about the two breeds much, just remember a cute puppy might not be a cute dog, when you mix the breeds you never know what your going to get.
Then again by the time it's fully grown and doesn't look like that cute little puppy anymore your already in love and it just won't matter it will be beautifull to you no matter what.
I think my dog's are the cutest in the whole world where someone else would surely disagree.
Anyways good luck to you with your choice you'll fall in love with either dog!!!!! That's what matter's in the end just follow your heart.

I would go for a pure breed. I have a Yorkie and they are wonderful dogs. Yorkies shed VERY LITTLE, about like humans do when you brush their hair. As for the barking and not running away, that comes with training and the home life you provide for the puppy. My Yorkie is very loving with strangers and children, but never strays away from me or my husband. And grooming isn't that bad, just keep them trimmed and give them a bath regularly. I comb his hair daily so it won't get all matted or tangly. Whatever you decide to get, make sure you know the breeder and what kind of environment the dogs are in. You can always research the different breeds on the web and find whats best for you. I just fell in love with my Yorkie, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!!

Neither of these are breeds and they certainly aren't non-shedding dogs. If you cant handle dog hair, then don't get a dog.
Please read up on this heinous industry of 'designer dogs' before contributing to it. Look at your local rescue places to see if they have any mixed breeds that fit your needs.
Creating hybrid dogs from poor genetics (what most of these breeders do) is just a bad idea. The Maltese club of america strictly prohibits breeding malteses to non-Malteses. If they are violating that rule of the code of ethics, what other ones are they violating?

Having a trained dog isn’t the same as having a balanced dog, but if your dog knows a few basic commands, it can be helpful when tackling problem behaviors — existing ones or those that may develop in the future. Learn here https://tr.im/zkYaQ
So where do you start with dog obedience training? You could take a class, but it’s not necessary; you can do it yourself. In fact, with the right attitude, it can be fun for both you and your dog!
Step 1 : Sit
This is one of the easiest dog obedience commands to teach, so it’s a good one to start with.
• Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose.
• Move your hand up, allowing his head to follow the treat and causing his bottom to lower.
• Once he’s in sitting position, say “Sit,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat this sequence a few times every day until your dog has it mastered. Then ask your dog to sit before mealtime, when leaving for walks, and during other situations where you’d like him calm and seated.
Step 2 : Come
This command can help keep a dog out of trouble, bringing him back to you if you lose grip on the leash or accidentally leave the front door open.
• Put a leash and collar on your dog.
• Go down to his level and say, “Come,” while gently pulling on the leash.
• When he gets to you, reward him with affection and a treat.
Once he’s mastered it with the leash, remove it — and practice the command in a safe, enclosed area.
Step 3 : Down
This can be one of the more difficult commands in dog obedience training. Why? Because the position is a submissive posture. You can help by keeping training positive and relaxed, particularly with fearful or anxious dogs.
• Find a particularly good smelling treat, and hold it in your closed fist.
• Hold your hand up to your dog’s snout. When he sniffs it, move your hand to the floor, so he follows.
• Then slide your hand along the ground in front of him to encourage his body to follow his head.
• Once he’s in the down position, say “Down,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat it every day. If your dog tries to sit up or lunges toward your hand, say “No” and take your hand away. Don’t push him into a down position, and encourage every step your dog takes toward the right position. After all, he’s working hard to figure it out!

Please do not contribute to the problem of breeding these "designer" mutt breeds. Mutts are okay but you should not have to pay for them. Rescue one from a shelter. Maybe just buy a poodle, not a poodle mix.
