Back when I was a kid and made to go, it was a great place to sleep.

I don't go to church, but I used to. My current understanding is that is helps the lost get found, but I also know that those who make a habit going sometimes don't really get the point and often turn it into a political venue, enforcing drama and abuse on those less "perfect" than themselves.
It can be the best and worst of everything. I would love to find a church that understands these problems and deals appropriately with them.

It all depends on what church you attend.
At my church, the Catholic Church, Jesus Christ becomes physically and substantially present on the altar at every service (Mass).
Then Jesus carries my prayers and petitions with him to our Father in heaven, picks up whatever I need, and delivers it to me when I personally receive him just a few minutes later, in holy communion.
After I die, I expect Jesus to personally escort my soul to heaven in much the same manner, at a Catholic Mass that will be celebrated for that express purpose.
It doesn't get any better than that, this side of heaven!

I do not go to church per say. But to a Fellowship group with other Christians that share the same beliefs. It is good to Fellowship with other believers, it is supposed to keep you on the straight and narrow.

I don't go to church for me, I go for God. Church isn't about relieving stress or fueling up for the week.......at least it shouldn't be. Church is a place of worship; it's where we give all praise to God because He deserves it.

First, this is a good question and it gives one something to think about even if they do go to church reguarly such as myself.
I would say I go for Sunday school/church for myself and my son, my hubby's job takes him away on this day-
I would say it keeps me focused on Christ.
I use to go and see what church and God can do for me, but now I also ask God what can I do for him?
To worship with others is empowering, and prayer by all for anything is amazing.
It is not so much what church can do for us, it should be also what can we do for God.
Thank you for asking this question. it is a very good one.
God Bless you-

You go to church to feed your spirit. If you don't feed your body, what will happen? It will begin to get weak, then poor, then die. If you have never fed your spirit, the devil has got you. What do you need to feed your spirit? The word of God. That's right. Let it eat and it will rise up . Feed your spirit more than you feed your body and it will be strong enough to hear God.

You get to interact with others that have the same belief system as you do, form friendships, etc. Also, prayer as a group is stronger than individual....Sort of like a team sport, individual contributions contribute to the success of the entire team.

What it WOULD do, if I went would be:
- waste my Sunday morning.
- introduce me to a unique way of thinking, that I'm not allowed to differ from.
- consume much of my time working for the same cause as the ancient inquisitors, colonisers, crusaders, and so on.
- remove my capacity to work things out on my own, with the sole aid of my intelligence.
- put me in the obligation to defend a murderous institution.
- make me look like a fool, every time I'm doing the exact same rituals as everybody else in the room (singing along, crossing myself,...)

Gives me a chance to connect with other people who share my beliefs. Allows me a break from the stress of life and a time to truly worship my creator and Lord.
