I just recently visited Thailand from Australia and found the easiest way to get any mobile service was to purchase a local sim card and transfer it into your mobile. Every major shopping outlet and even market places sell them. Or you could get international roaming on your cel before you leave by phoning your mobile provider service and they will bill on your normal phone bill. Cheers anyway, have a great trip, wish i was coming too.

leslie's right. much better off with the local sim card than getting roaming with your home service tho - that can be very expensive.
the local sim allows you to buy time 100-200-300 baht at a shot. MBK (at National Stadium stop on Skytrain) is the best place to go for phone stuff.

bypass to Chiang Mai first, there's a super worldwide airport there. regardless of the undeniable fact that, you will bypass to Phuket as properly as there is yet another worldwide airport there too. From the two Chiang Mai or Phuket, you will capture kin flight, which would be using yet another airport at Don Muang in Bangkok, or worse get the practice that would take approximately 10 hours to Bangkok, and nonetheless do all what you wanna do.

Depends if you want to call local or international. Local calls, local sim card. International call, use your call-back service.
