and then i want to edit the text on it and send it to micosoft word for editing it gives me 3 or 4 different pages on after another in works with bits of text on each page instade of the the one full page i scanned , i dont know if this makes any seince to you

start from zero. that means you have first to click on the option -- print review..and see how many pages is coming...that is number one -- most of the times you have to re-arrange the scan page into one single page -- after you scan...go to print review...once you know where the scan sits -- then delete spaces in between those pages..to make it one single page...and do not print until you are sure it is one single page.
PS. another way to have only one printed page -- whatever that page contains (you do take chances) is when you do formatting in the print options make sure you click 1 i.e. meaning you only want one page printed.

Is the document in columns? that can confuse the formatting part of it, it will recognise the columns as continuous text but then decide to put them into different pages. As long as it's going into MS word you'll be able to amend it, but it's just because the technology is fairly new (at least in terms of this stuff being introduced to domestic situations).
