Go to the shelter and take her with you. They have pure breeds there more than you think. Also if you can find a dog that isnt pure bred that she loves then you are better off because mutts are usually healtheir dogs and more stable in attitude and you will be saving a dog's life. What a great presnt all the way around. You will be giving life to a dog for Christmas and love and your girlfriend will have a new baby to love for Christmas. ( dogs are always our babies) Just in case youdont know...the pound kills dogs if they dont get adopted. And if you get a grown one , they are usually already house broken.

A yorkie is great. They stay small. If they are full blood Yorkshire Terriers then they should stay at 5lbs or less. Mine are full grown and are 2lbs and 3lbs. They do yap quite a bit but are wonderful lap dogs. They are very loving. I carry mine around in a purse.
They are good watch dogs but of course not good guard dogs. I am terrible with links. So, just do a search for Yorkies or Yorkshire terriers and all kinds of pictures and suggestions will come up.

The busiest time of year at animal shelters is right after Christmas. People get pets as gifts that they were not prepared to care for, so they surrender them to shelters to become somebody else's burden. I hope that your girlfriend knows that this is coming and that she is ready and prepared to receive a dog as a Christmas gift. If not, you'll be doing her, the dog and your community a great disservice.

If she likes cute, cuddly, loving and small, get her a chihuahua. The best dog in the world. Here is a link with info and some good pix.
