I keep seeing all of these Aunts bragging about their Nieces or Nephews. What is up with that? They brag more than the grandparents or even the parents sometimes. I see them with their nephew or niece's picture as their avatars, I see them posting pictures on forums, etc., etc.
Why are they so proud of something that they had nothing to do with the creation of and why do they go around acting as though they had something to do with the creation... ?
This is just something that I keep noticing more and more for some reason.

These applies to Aunts that live close as well as far away from their sister or brother's children.
I'm curious, because I never took the liberty of bragging about my sister's children - I think it's kind of rude to brag about something that isn't yours. Especially when it involves spreading their pictures over the Internet...

I have a friend whose sister in law had an abortion when she was younger, is unmarried and no kids of her own....and she is one of those aunts. My friend is freaked out by all the pics of her kids at her in laws condo. Maybe her regret for her past, fills her for the appreciation for these kids......I dunno.
My sister has no kids, but she is not a braggadocios aunt. She does have 1 pic of them in her home, and 1 at work.......but not crazy like you are talking about. As less people have kids....I think aunts are taking a bigger "role" -- not that I think it is great or anything.

I'm the same way with my nieces & nephews. I don't have any children & they are like having my own grandchildren. I love them to pieces. I have another sister who is the same way; she doesn't have children either.

i know of a lady who hates her sister's children, and it's sad so i think it would be better that they are proud than to hate their sibling's children!

This is only a hanful of friends I know that do this also - they don't have children of their own.

i think its because they don't have children of their own. if they would..it would be a different story.
