I am looking to buy a new digital camera but funds are a bit tight atm as my last one got stolen last week, with my mobile phone. One is the Canon IXUS 60 - 6MP 3x optical zoom camera or there's the Pentax Optio L20 - 7MP, 3x optical zoom. Both of these i've found for 200 pounds. There is also a Fujifilm camera for 150pounds (same specs as the Canon above). I'm used to the Pentax cameras but not familiar with what's a good brand for cameras. Any ideas? Or other camera suggestions.

Also note that i'm looking for a camera that uses litium battery not normal batteries that last less and are more of a bother to charge.

If you're looking at the Fuji- I'm hoping that it's either the F20 or F30. Same image quality on both, just more manual controls and a higher resolution LCD on the F30.

The Ixus 60 (aka SD600 for those of on the left side of the pond), is a fine camera. It will work well in a lot of situations and is small and cute. You pay a little extra for the Canon name, but you get excellent image processing and metering in a wide variety of conditions. The Fuji F30 is arguably the top compact digicam around. It has 2 to 3 stops better high ISO performance (i.e. low light sensitivity)- so you can take photos indoors without a flash (and the dreaded red-eye and washed out looks). Also- if you're worried about battery life, the Fuji can take over 580 shots on a charge- by far the best in the biz. The Fuji is the low light king of compacts, but it takes a little fiddling to get the best sunlight photos out of it. So- if you are prepared to learn how to use the camera, dial in a bit of exposure compensation, change metering modes, white balance, and be knowledgeable about the ISO that your letting the camera choose for you- it has a much higher potential for higher quality images. But- under some circumstances, it takes a good photographer to get the most out of the camera.

I have to say, that you would be absolutely delighted with an Olympus Mju 720SW. It's the best all round compact I've ever seen - it is waterproof up to 3 metres, an shockproof up to 1.5 metres, sand and dustproof. Is preset with so many settings (easily accessible) for certain situations - snow, beach, night, fireworks, candlelight, portrait, behind glass.... you name it. Not only that, it has an excellent anti-shake feature, which captures the most amazing pics, even though you could be moving at 100mph in one direction and your subject is moving twice that speed in the other! It's compact and small, but with good weight due to it's metal body, and available around the £200 mark. All that, and it's 7.1 megapixels. The pictures it produces are so sharp, clear and lifelike, it's amazing!

You should seriously consider this wonderful gem of a camera.

Canon is usually the better brand, as I have always used Canon when doing photo shoots.

I have also used others, but the canon is very good in the ways of user friendly.

BUT - one mega pixel makes very little difference, and if you are already used to Pentax settings, then I would say go for that one.

But don't get that fujifilm camera.

I hoped that my advice has helped.
