It's difficult to say since every person is different but a good number of trainers agree that heavy weights with less reps is the method for strength and mass. The key to weight training is to increase the amount of weight you are capable to lifting. Consistently lifting a light weight for high reps are meant for muscle endurance. An good example is doing pushups. Over time, you are able to do more pushups, but your strength level wont increase as much as with heavy weights.

For strength, heavy weights, less reps.
But before you do that, spend about 2-3 months doing low weight, high reps and then even after you start increasing the weight, do some days with low weight hi reps.
When I was younger, I used to do LOTS of push ups. As a pole vaulter, I wanted upper body strength, and could bench about 175% of my weight. (I got the strength, not by the push ups, but by heavy weight, low reps). Because of the push ups though, I've NEVER strained any muscles involved in bench pressing. It turns out the push ups were a great way to stretch and develop the full length of those muscles.

If you belong to a gym that offers the Les Mills Body Training classes like "BodyPump, BodyStep" etc., then try the BodyPump class. You choose your weight and do long sets of reps (up to 3-4 minutes on one muscle group) I have seen a lot of men and women lose weight taking this class. It's fun and a good way to meet others, too! I was in pretty good shape when I started the class--I gained 5lbs, BUT lost 1 pant size due to building muscle and losing fat!!

Heavy weights with less reps is better for strength training. It is good to use higher reps occaisionally.

lifting less weight with more weights is more safe than lifting heavy weights with less reps. lifting too much weight can result in injury. plus less weight with more reps will help build your muscles heavy weight with less reps will just strain your muscles

Legally, Creatine plus B-complex and plenty of amino's and water works well for me. With a consistent training program not just once in a while.
