Yes, it will help. And you definitely want to get him fixed; a friend's unfixed cat sprayed in my car and although I kept the windows open for two years there was still a bit of a smell in my car. I don't know how you got your kitten, but depending on where you got it and if you plan on letting it out or not there will be other things your cat will need. I'd recommend you find a vet as soon as possible to get a health program set up for your cat. You don't have to go in just yet, but call and ask them anything you want to know and make your decisions.

When you take him to the vet for his vaccinations they can let you know when you can neuter him. It is done normally at 5 months of age. As long as he does not start to spray he shouldn't after you neuter him. There is always an exception to the 'rule' though. Some cats will always spray some neutered cats will spray if there is an intact male outside and they can smell it. Your vet should have products that can help with the smell of other cats or should be able to tell you what to use.

It's best to have him neutered anyway, but it should help to prevent him from spraying.

I had a male cat that was fixed and he never sprayed, but then I got another male cat as a kitten and as soon as he was older he started to spray (he was not fixed).

Your cat should be neutered at about 6 months. It's no guarantee he won't spray, however unless you were to introduce another male into the house he probably won't spray. Don't be nervous, you're not doing anything wrong. Ask your vet for advice if there's anything you're not sure about. Don't worry about neutering, it's not a big op for a boy.

Most likely it will not be a problem after he is fixed. In rare cases a male will spray after they are fixed but they usually have their reasons, like an unfixed male nearby. Talk to your vet and figure out when would be the best time to get it done.

If you get him neutered, the chances of him spraying go WAY down. Do it NOW, though, because if you wait too long, he may spray anyway. Also, the older he is, the more likely is he to remember it--my fiance's mom neutered and declawed their cat when he was older and he never forgave her, aiming for HER things when he decided to not use the litter box and the like.

My kitten's vet said to make sure to get him neutered prior to 6 months of age or he'll spray. He said to wait till he's 4 1/2 months though, but there are other opinions about that.

Having him neutered will stop him from spraying.
Have him neutered when ever your vets wants to do it. Or at around 5-6 months.
That should stop the problem before it even starts.
Good luck with your new kitten.

Ask your vet when the best time to have him neutered. You want to have him fixed anyways. He will not spray once he is fixed.. It should solve your problem

If you fix him before he reaches sexual maturity, then he won't spray. Talk to your vet about how old he needs to be before getting fixed.
