I know it's a recurring theme tonight, but the communications are interesting.
So here's the point to consider - if there was no heaven mentioned or suggested at all in the Bible or Q'uran etc, would you still follow your religion, and why?
For the sake of the question, when you die in this life, you die.

Shirley - Yes, but normal people don't need God to tell them not to kill, etc. What would be the motivation for religion if there was no heaven???

Ok, the best argument for worshipping God *even if there was no heaven* so far, is that it helps prevent killing people. Do you need religion for this? Not killing and being nice to people is common-sense, not religion.

yes, i would. Because I do see the value in serving God.
Didn't when I was young but now I do. If everyone followed the rules in the bible they would have a much better life.
When we don't all kinds of bad stuff happens to people.
Those rules were put in there for a reason, he is our parent, he loves us and they are not there to take the joy out of our life.
They were put there to keep the joy in our life.
How happy is a young unwed mother? Not very!
How happy is a drug addicted teenager who can't get his life together. Or an alcoholic? Or someone who just found out he has AIDS or some other STD?
Look at the face of a soldier who was put in a war and force to kill. They don't come home and say: "Gee that was fun, wish I could do that again." They come home changed or maybe crippled. God hates violence, wouldn't it be nice if all people hated violence and refused to fight with each other. There was no more war? No more hate? No more racial slurs?
In stead we learned to love each other. Worked together to solve problems like hunger, disease or even drought.

Heaven is where God is and hell is where he is not. Earth is where man is. How does man get to heaven? Your premise is that heaven does not exist. So your question is really is saying, if all that has been revealed is false and there is no God, would you worship one?

You question is about observed knowledge, not about reveal knowledge. You simply observed that when we died we are death. This is an observation that everyone can agree on. We see the dead body, we bury (or burn) the remains.

We know from reveal knowledge, God is spirit. We worship God in spirit and in truth. This is something you believe in, but it is not something you can observe.

God reveals, man observes. Your observation contradicts what God has revealed. You ask us to believe that there is no heaven when what we believe say there is.

We worship God by saying prayers that expresses our love and devotion. We are like the mourner who brings flowers to the grave faithfully, flowers that shows love and devotion. The mourner knows the departed is dead, but he/she places flowers anyway.

We worship for our benefit. We believe in all that is reveal, whether it is makes sense or it does not. We hope for eternal life. This is what we are and how we live.

Are we like the mourner who places flowers on a grave? Feeling lost without hope. Or are we more than we can observe? We place our hope in the revealed and wait for dead to raise.

the best argument for worshipping God is because he's God for God's sake!

he's the creator to all creations, the master of the systems and all. he holds everything. and as his creations, we must obey what he said.

to worship God is just an act of obedience and gratefulness. why come up with this sort of question unless human have issues with their egos, the slave-master complex is so hard to be swallowed by some hard-headed and ego-maniacs (it may sounds harsh but that's my opinion). God ordered us to worship Him.

why do we need to be rewarded with heaven when we are far from being grateful and obedient to God!?!

If there were no mention of heaven in the Bible I would still follow my faith because I know that God has a plan and a purpose for me and my life here and after.
If you trust and beleive in Him that created you, you will understand that He will not leave you without.

I think it's impossible to know what we would do in a situation that does not exist right now. For example, I don't know for sure what I would do if I was my life was threatened by another person. That said, since God is so real to me and gives me peace, comfort, and strength in this life, I would think I would still follow him and seek to be obedient.

god means the same as allah just in a different language, i think we all worship the same god, there is only one god, but ppl might view him a bit differently. i think if there was no heaven then that would be strange because i believe in a just god, but there is no justice in this world, but i would still worship god because it makes me feel better.

Why should that matter? If Adam and Eve had not sinned, where would they be today? Right here on the earth. And in the near future, that will be realized. Ps. 37:11 said: "But the meek ones will inherit the earth. And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

Yes, I would still worship God because He is so lovely and to be in relationship with him really enhances a life.

Yes. Worshiping any God through any religion is really just an exercise in paying homage to the social values and morals that you have accepted as the guiding principles for our lives. We don't do it because we're afraid of heaven vs hell.
