Rescue Heroes are reasonablly priced. The Dollar Tree has nice dinosaurs sometimes -- a few of them would make a nice gift. A movie -- Elmo or Thomas or Jay Jay the Jet Plane. A drawing pad and some markers, or there are these cool paint that come in bottles with a felt tip (kind of what people use for bingo). Use coupons as place like Jo Ann etc or Michaels -- they have great toys and gifts.
You can get a Thomas train at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. They also have all sorts of arts and crafts things.
Kids today have so much (mine included) -- I do believe it is the thought.....jsut be creative.

How about a tricycle?
Alot of people have suggested paints/playdough and that type of stuff, but that's the kind of stuff you want to stay away from. It might not be a talking or singing toy that annoys mom and dad, but it is annoying when your 3 yr. old gets paints and wants to play with them as soon as he sees them and then you have to clean it all up. I'm sure the parents would much rather he had a toy that didn't make noise, didn't make a mess, and could easily be put away in the corner.

Tickle Me Elmo...is it that new hyped up version? So fantastic they can't even tell you how fantastic he is on the commercial? They just tell you about the box.
Call his parents or ask him what he wants!

call mom and find out what he likes -- thomas the tank engine is always good. maybe a disney dvd or 2. anything building blockish. they have the big legos for little kids. spongebob underwear would even be fine. but seriously give mom a call.
