I have long hair that is already past my buttocks (I am short..) and I really don't know if I should get it cut.
My mother likes it long, but she doesn't know that it is starting to get me sick. I am dizzy, light-headed, and nauseaus (sp?) all the time. I also have headaches/migraines and trouble walking/standing steadily most of the day. I have done research about this and I have come to the conclusion that I might have vertigo. This isn't that bad, but I think that I, being a freshman, shouldn't have this problem.
I enjoy my long hair because it seperates me from the crowd. I am just tired of having this nausea, and I feel like I need a change. I've told my friends that I am wanting to get it cut over winter break and most of them are disappointed.
I know that I should do this for me, but I'm not sure what to do. Should I remain as an individual and keep it long? Or should I make a drastic change for my own self image?
(I am considering donating my hair)
Please help, thank you!!

If you really want to try to keep your long hair, you could try to get it layered to see if that takes off some of the weight. I think that you should probably do something though--for your health! There are so many ways that you can wear your hair short and still show your individuality. You could experiment with different styles and even colors until you find a combination that's just right for you. You can try different lengths and textures, maybe get some highlights that enhance your natural color or play with funky temporary colors. Long hair isn't the only way to stand out from the crowd, and vertigo and strain can be serious problems in the long run. You can always grow it out again if you want to, too! It's really nice to be able to donate it to a good cause-- that way you can think of all that time you spent growing it not going to waste--it'll go to kids who really appreciate it.

Your symptoms could be a lot of things. Tell your mother and go to the doctor for a check-up. Why suffer then find out it is an easy thing to fix? And most things are much easier to take care of if you don't put it off.
Cut your hair if you want. Donating it is a great idea! You've had the same style for over 4 years so you are probably ready for a change. You can grow it long again anytime you wish.

im not sure what vertigo is but i know extremely long hair can cause the problems u listed
just remember that there are others ways to stand out from a crowd other than long hair (for instance, really short hair)
but aside from that, donate your hair would be an extremely kind thing to do. i am all for you cutting ur hair. that kind of hair is extremely difficult to deal with and if ur mom cant understand that then tell her to ask a doctor
pick out a hair cut best for your face shape, like maybe angled, layered, or side bangs. make this a new beginning. dye it if u want too!

You should do whats best for you and your health. There are other ways to seperate yourself from the crowd. Every person is unique in their own way and having longer hair is not the only thing that makes you who you are. Not only that but the side effects you explained must be very frustrating for yourself, you shouldn't put yourself through nausea and headaches just to please other people. In my opinon you should cut it and donate it to a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long term cancer.

Hi,
This is a good question. Well, I come from a background in fashion, so I think I can give you good advise..I understand that everyone likes your hair long--it's probably very cute on you. However, when it comes to persoanal style--you have to Be Yourself. It's very boring to hold on to the same old look, and same old hairstyle for 100 years. I truly believe that every woman should "re-invent" herself every few years. It's what makes you interesting and exciting.
If your gut is telling you to cut your hair--then go for it. Of course everyone around you says they will be disappointed. But I almost guarantee you that after you cut your hair--they will love it..Me-- I have long hair. And every few years, I chop it all off. Before I do that, friends and family beg me not to--but afterward, they all love my cute, short do....Dear, it's just hair--it will grow back! And I think its great that you will donate it--you will make some girl with cancer very happy...As for your vertigo--please go to your family doctor about that--I doubt that comes from long hair..Good Luck.

I used to have a braid down past my bottom (I'm not short). I decided I was tired of stiff necks, the upkeep, etc...I donated a 23" braid to Locks of Love. I have donated my hair one other time since (last year). I now keep it short and I love it.
Your hair is YOUR'S...not your mom's, not your friend's.
And remember...hair will grow back if you don't like it.

No one could make that decision for you. Only you can. But if you do decide to get it cut, then it is great that you are considering donating your hair.

you think you hair is doing this? I think it might be a little more, I think you should get it cut (donate it) and then if these things keep happening see a doctor.

Usually, that is too long for me. I think it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can pull off long hair and other folks can't.

Cut it all off and donate it to one of those organizations that makes wigs for kids with cancer. You will be free from your hair and a few bald kids will get wigs.
