I think the most common topic of gossip is other people, however, I think bad news travels really fast also.
Good news travels fast, bad news travels faster and embarassing news travels at the speed of light.

Gossip could be about a person (1. people) whose boyfriend cheated on her (2. bad news) so she was so depressed she wore different types of socks with different colored shoes by mistake (3. fashion) because she had given it up to her cheating boyfriend (4. sex) who cheated on her with her best friend

But I think most of the time it's people that dominate the conversation.
