Homeland Security Report - Page 7:

In 2005 the government estimates the following crossed our Southern Boarder:

5.6 to 11.2 million pounds of cocaine.

34.3 to 68.6 million pound of marijuana.

(Same Report)

Federal Drug "Seizures" on our Southern Boarder in Fiscal Year 2005:

1,129,275 pounds of cocaine.
6,866,465 pounds of marijuana
16,790 pounds of methamphetamine.

According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, Mexican cartels are “the predominant smugglers, transporters, and wholesale distributors of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, and Mexico-heroin in the United States” and “are expanding their control over the distribution of these drugs in areas long controlled by Colombian and Dominican criminal groups, including areas of New York and Florida.”

As long as there is a market there will be a supply, only the price will vary. If the market is strong, as in the U.S., then you will get a lot of import.

You cannot stop people from taking something by trying to stop suppliers, surely attempts at alcohol prohibition have demonstrated that all this accomplishes is to push up prices and increase profits to the dealers.

The only way the dealers can be beaten is to legalize the product, and then dedicate the incredible amount of money spent on attempts of prohibition to dealing with the problem of addiction. In other words, fewer cops and more medical workers. Legalization knocks the bottom out of the business because the product becomes virtually worthless, or a least inexpensive enough not to be commercially attractive to the real baddies.

According to 60 Minutes, Canada is a big marijuana supplier, so it's not just Mexico
Yeah, we have too many drugs already. But we also have a huge demand, and Americans are huge drug users. So if we didn't get it from Mexico we'd be getting it from somewhere else. .

Absolutely, particularly with the meth labs and marijuana plantations the cartels have started in California and Oregon. I'm not up on the other states, but they may be there too...

Do you remember when all of a sudden you had to go to the pharmacist to get certain over the counter cold medicines? It was because they could be used in making meth and were being used for that, commonly.

yeah we do but its all about supply and demand and of course making money.the drug smugglers would all be out of business if there weren't so many people hooked on that stuff here.but since many are and they are closeby they provide it and in the process make themselves a fair amount of american cash.
