how long can seed lay dormant?

i,m aware that this varies widely from one species to another you will not have to point this fact out to me..

Some can lay dormant for alot of years until a fire comes through the area and scarifies the seed coat.

I was going to mention the fire required for some pine seeds to germinate .

But I will say that they found seeds in the pyramids that are still able to grow.
