The medical community and media have failed to get the message out that cancer can affect anyone, at any age, any sex, healthy or unhealthy, whether they live by a nuclear plant or on a pristine mountaintop. All human beings no matter what their lifestyle can get cancer. Cancer (although deadly) is not necessarily an abnormality. It refers to cells in the body that for some reason do not get the signal to 'stop growing'. Everyone has trillions of cells in their bodies . . considering that fact, what is amazing is not that people get cancer, but why people do NOT get cancer.
Dana Reeves had lung cancer. No one knows why, everything you hear will just be guesses and opinions. No one knows. No one is immune.
There are plenty of theories about the cause of cancer, but not one definitive answer to explain all cancers.
The best protection against cancer is to stay healthy, become strong physically and mentally, exercise, avoid excesses of anything, eat a balanced diet, and enjoy life. Learn to examine your own body, learn what to look out for, check out any unusual lumps or bumps, become your own best health advocate. You know your body best. Teach your kids how to examine themselves too since cancer strikes them as well. In the early stages, cancer is treatable and can be curative.
Do not be lulled into complacency. You are not safe from cancer even if you eat healthy, exercise, don't smoke or drink, or are never exposed to anything in the environement. Learn to know your body, and report anything unusual to your doctor as soon as possible.

Andy Kaufman, a comedian, died of lung cancer and didn't smoke but did stand up comedy in alot of smoke filled places. Linda McCartney was a health nut and she died of breast cancer so I don't know about the healthy food connection. It didn't help her, unfortunately.
