Middle class values include a desire for social respectability, material wealth, and an emphasis on the family and education. That so much reminds me of the late and great Ronnie Barker: "I look up to him because he is upper-class. I look down on him because he is lower-class. I am middle-class." Great comedian. (Oh, and by the way, I'm a cross between working/middle class - don't care tuppence about the first two values above, but the second two are very important to me, and as for socialising, I just go with the flow!).

Actually, the first thing that springs to mind is hypocrytical, staid and boring. However I suppose that that is a stereo-type. values are probably: honesty, work hard for your future, be faithful, don't smoke, drink too much, and treat your neighbour as you would wish to be treated. The reality is: sleep with your best friends wife, work 9am-5pm 5 days a week, drink a bottle of wine every night, smoke in the bathroom/ in the car, and pay the cleaner cash in hand....as Billy Connelly said (not quoted verbatim): the poor and the rich have a lot in common, while the middle classes are pretentious...

I am from the working class, working in what would be considered a middle class job. I do not find I readily belong to either group, and find social situations awkward.
I have the work ethic of the person who stays until the job is done. I have a desire to leave things (including the world) better than I found them. I consider the world my extended community. I detest materialism, and the valuing of objects and acquisitions over people, which I associate with the middle class. I equally detest small-mindedness, and racism, rampant in the lower classes.
I find it is the wanna-be's who treat me the most miserably- rich folks tend to treat me very well, and extremely poor people treat me very well (I spent 4 years working to improve conditions for poverty stricken people in Central America). Middle class people cannot find a thing to talk to me about, and I guess that's ok with me. I find most (not all) of them pretentious, apathetic, and acquistive. Harsh? perhaps- but I do not have enough time to waste it trying to impress people who judge me by the Thrift Store shoes that I wear. The rich people I deal want to hear my ideas for making the world a better place, and often want to help me fund the ideas. The poor people want to invite me into their homes and listen to how I made it out, against the odds. They also want to hear about my family, which is large and very loveable.
So I am not sure what "middle class values" really are. If value means a sum of your actions, I hate to say it, but middle class America is very self-absorbed. When I ask myself, "what's more important: having a car that makes everyone envious, or helping send a child from Latin America to school?", there simply is no choice for me. I think most middle class Americans would say, "I'll help send the child to school AFTER I have everything I want". My knowledge tells me that you send the child to school, because it is the right thing to do. You never get everything you want. The rich and the poor understand that you help yourself every time you help others, while the middle class are sure to attend to their selves first. They've bought into the 'god helps those who help themselves' fallacy. I believe in karma: what comes around goes around.

Middle class values are society rules borrowed from the upper class by those who are struggling to free themselves from the working class. If you suround yourself with a certain type of social circle, behave in a socially acceptable way, reside in a certain type of area and recieve a certain level of education then you are more able to climb the social ladder. In reality, a persons class is determined by how much they are worth, i.e. money, stocks and shares, property and so on. For example, alot of gypsies are loaded. society dictates they are not middle class but financially they are very much so.

omg ur all so middle class its shocking, but i was doing sociological research into this and i concluded that because of the rise in the number of middle class jobs most people who come from a working class background tend to become middle class, in my opinion the middle class is slowly disappearing and its moving into a hybrid of working class and middle class people so its very hard to define middle class values today

Educated, hard workers, who care about their fellow man. If they became greedy, that would make them upper-middle class.
It is harder to define middle class than it used to be, because jobs which were previously working class have become better paid, and valued more. An example of this might be plumbers or carpenters.

The salt of the earth,
The ones who don't believe in accepting extremes, nor act to extremes
We keep working while the others quit
Both parents work and have a strong work ethic, even if one works part-time or volunteers to help others,
We are the helpers of the world
We get things done
We pay the most taxes,
We believe in THE SUPREME BEING...although we have many different names for our beliefs,
We believe in raising our children, and our children deserve a better chance than we received,
We believe.....in ourselves
We take out our own trash
We value people just because they are people...sort of unconditional love, and unconditional respect...
We hate it when you step on our civil rights.

They live happily within their means. They have priorities straight, they take care of their families and educate their children so they might move up the pay scale ladder faster than their parents. They do not ask for or expect money from the government. They help their neighbor in need.

right here is what I discovered with regards to the class equipment in English: the midsection type has a tendency to value fulfillment of any variety. the better type values visual charm, and the decrease type values kinfolk togetherness. the midsection type is the "be the ultimate which you will be" type. they're oftentimes knowledgeable and fairly prosperous, and characteristic a tendency to be extra self sustaining than the different training.
