I set my camera to take photos at RAW format. When I imported my files into my computer Photoshop detects an error that says "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file". That's strange because I open RAW images on photoshop all the time. I really hope that these images are not corrupted. Any help?

Additional Details:
I've just come across Adobe Lightroom, which is a future technology still in development. It supports camera RAW so this application will probably be a better option for you. The public beta can be downloaded from the Adobe labs website.

Prior to CS, Photoshop didn't support camera RAW. I think the reason you're having problems opening RAW files is because you're using an earlier version of Photoshop. The way I see it, you've got two options;

Option 1:
Upgrade to Photoshop CS2. This is the best but most expensive option.

Option 2:
Download a shareware application like dcRAW-X to convert the RAW files into something Photoshop can work with. This is the cheapest option but probably won't be good enough for a professional.

If you're using Photoshop CS or CS2 and getting an error, the reason could be that your camera isn't supported. A simple update to the camera RAW plug-in should fix the problem.

Easy fix - I personally use EITHER of the tools you need myself :-)

For the easiest of solutions, go to Adobe and work your way across to the "updates" page and select updates for Photoshop. The file you want is the "Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 3.6 update". Install that and see how you go.

NOW - if that doesn't work, it will mean the RAW format your camera uses is not yet supported by Adobe. In that case your best bet is a program called Capture One Pro - the photographer that my fiancée and I use put me onto this one. You can download a 30 day trial from the link below. This will not only allow you to adjust the image within the application, but will lock into Photoshop so that you open the file as normal.

If neither of these options work, then it will just mean that your RAW files are corrupted, and you may well want to replace your flash card as that will be the likely culprit.

I had the same problem with my digital camera: when I took pictures in Raw-format, I could not open them in photoshop (on mac) because of the same error... I tried to find a solution for this, and I did!!!

I searched on the site of my camera's brand for a Photoshop-plugin to open a this specific kind of Raw-file. Apparently there are different kinds of Raw-images... Since I installed the plugin, I can open them just fine...

I hope your problem is solved by this. Otherwise: sorry I couldn't help.
