Pornography (from Greek πόρνη (porni) "prostitute" and γραφή (grafi) "writing"), more informally referred to as porn or porno, is the representation of the human body or sexual activity with the goal of sexual arousal. It is similar to, but distinct from erotica, though the two terms are often used interchangeably.

Pornography has been defined by the US Supreme Court as an artwork meant solely to arouse and which has no other redeeming social value. In other words it has no value as a work of art. Actually, I think that's a pretty good working definition.

The problem is, how do you define a lack of redeeming social value? And does 'mere' arousal lack redeeming value for society in general? I guess it still boils down to how YOU percieve what you are viewing.

Who really defines the artistic merit of photographs anyway. I think if there's substantial skill involved in the photography process by a photographer who has some form of vision then it's not pornography.

Many famous art-pieces we respect and admire today were regarded and even condemned as being lewd in the past.

If it arouses you sexually and has artistic merit, it's erotica. If it arouses you sexually but has no artistic merit, it's porn.

There's a place for both in this world, unless you believe in "porn additiction."
