Most common thing is immigration through a University. Tons of Canadians go to the schools down here on a student visa, then they apply or get a job, and there employer will "support" them to become a permenant resident (green card).
Other than that, if you have relatives in the US they can be your supporter to immigrate. It must be a Mother, Father, sibling, or grand parent(s) that are American citizens.
You can also apply for a job here from Canada, and the employer will support your green card application if there is no other American Citizen who already lives in the US, that has applied for the job.

My Immigration process has been hell and I am married to an American. There are several ways to go about it, apply for a work Visa, (Certain proffessions are easier to get one- Doctor, Lawyer, Nurse, Accountant, etc) Best to go to the uscis.com website and it will tell you.
