You'll have to find his family and keep in contact with them.

Unless that soldier has given the Army written permission to talk specifically with you, the Army will tell you nothing about him.

First thing are kids involved? If so go to your local Veterans Affairs office for help. They will tell you how to get in touch with him.
What happens in these cases the military will notify him that you are trying to get in touch with him, then give him the option of contacting you back or not.
NOTE OF CAUTION: Keep the letter short crisp and business like.

Unless you had one of his children, have contact with one of his immediate family members, or he has the Red Cross contact you when something happens to him, you would never know.
