My friend has a close friend who deals drugs, and they hang out sometimes. He is never around when any sales are made, but they are just good friends. Is there anything illegal about that?

It's not illegal, but it's not very smart. One is known by the company one keeps.

It's not illegal, but it's not a very good idea. What happens if that friend of yours was hanging out with their close friend when they are contacted by the police. It's just not a good idea to hang out with a drug dealer..... it's common sense.

If not illegal, definitely stupid. Does one friend hope to have influence on the other friend? What if one of the drug deal led to the death of another person? Then your friend wouldn't just be hanging out with a drug dealer, he'd also be hanging out with someone who was an accomplice to murder. If your friend is trying to persuade the dealer to make some better choices, great. If not, he'd be better off... and more helpful to the dealer friend, if he abandoned the friendship.

Friends don't let friends deal drugs.

As I wrote on yet another question: undesirable theory. I used to smoke marijuana and have those days stopped, and enable me say I HATE ALL drugs, even prescribed drugs. yet prohibition of drugs or the rest for that remember only hurts the area. with the help of outlawing drugs, the government drives their sale underground which force the value of the substance up. This motivates drug sellers to sell those components. From those sellers stems violent crime and the upward push of gangs. Prohibition additionally reasons the government to handle drug habit (a scientific undertaking) as a criminal offense (we don't throw alcoholics in reformatory for alcoholism can we). this suggests that the taxpayers ought to assist those people together as they're in reformatory for x style of years, many for below cannibis quotes. In an exceedingly loose society, what anybody places of their physique is their enterprise only, no longer that of the government. Now that being mentioned, people who use those drugs won't be able to bodily harm somebody else in any way or tension their habit on others. yet prohibition only reasons greater crime. particular, if maximum drugs have been legal we could see an enhance in the two use and habit initially, yet this, like cigarette smoking, could decline over the years. area of being loose is having adequate self belief in freedom and man or woman option to allow people to make stupid judgements approximately their wellbeing. the government can't and should not be waiting to dicate what's stable or incorrect for each man or woman.

It is most certainly inviting trouble, pay close attention to coragryphs answer.

A lot of people go to jail and prison simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is not unknown for drug dealers to "ditch" the evidence in someone elses car, home, clothing or even on the ground beside their "friend". Explaining that to the Police is not going to happen. Believe that.

Also, it is very easy to become "entrenched" in drug behavior. YOU need to be careful as well.

Good luck.

Peace.

If your friend is on probation or parole it is. Also, if a raid is done and your friend is there, they will go to jail too. If any drugs are found it will be up to the dealer to say it was all his. If he is not trust worthy, it is not a good position to be in. You never know when a bad cop may be the one handling the situation.

Under current laws, just being in the presence of someone committing a crime is not illegal.

However, that doesn't stop the police from harrassing your friend, or trying to find ways to prove conspiracy or accomplice liability. While the strict letter of the law says mere assocaition is not a crime, the govt has already shown that it can get around that limitation.
