it still has a "stale" type of stench. Keeping the door completely closed makes it worse. Is there any type of deoderizor that I can put in there that my detour that cat from going in there all together but also keeps my clothes smelling nice.

Pour liberally, rubbing alcohol on the area and let it soak in. Then blot of with paper towels and something heavy on top of it. You may have to do that several times. It works and it's cheap !

I have used both frebreeze and Nature's Miracle and the most effective thing I have found is Zero Odor. I ordered through a TV commercial and they also have a website: zeroodor.com where you can order. I have not seen it in pet stores yet.

After you have treated with that I would get some cedar strips which you just hang on a hanger and that should refresh the odor in the carpet. Unfortunately the urine odor can seep down into the padding and even somtimes into the carpet strips the carpet is tacked to. So I would pull up the corners and treat the pad and the wooden strips with the Zero Odor.

Febreeze. Or perhaps you can try leaving sachets or little containers of potpourri in there.

Good luck!
