How long he hides depends on why he's hiding. Two hours isn't long for a cat to hide who is determined not to be found. I've had cats hide for as much as 3 days after I've moved.

I wouldn't worry too much as kittens tend to go exploring and play hide and seek. If you've looked everywhere that you can think of (and I mean everywhere) and don't hear any cries of pain then I would let it be for a few hours and go about your business. I adopted a rescue cat who had been abused; when I first brought her home she hid in my cupboards for about 4 hours before venturing out.
Kittens do tend to get into everything and sometimes will get stuck, but assuming you've kitten-proofed your home, you don't hear any cries or whining and you know he hasn't escaped outside, I'd hang out for a bit and just wait to see if he shows up.

He's going to hide for as long as he wants - that's what cats do. It's possible that you may have looked right next to him & not seen him. You might want to check the closets or cabinets or any places where you've opened & closed a door & he might have snuck in. It is not your house anymore, it's his & he wants to explore every part of it. Don't worry about him deficating on something. He knows where the litter box is & will go to it when necessary. He's just being the king of his castle & is not available for anyone at the moment. :)

Every cat has a different ''schedule'' for litter box usage. They can go as little as 2-3 times a day. Just let your kitten come out when he's ready.

brmlda has the best answer.i have had my share of cats and its true, thats what they do. he'll come out when he is hungry or has to use the litter box and if he found a really good hiding spot like my cats used to, it will more than likely become his favourite spot. have fun with him, they are great pets.

did you just get this cat? if so , this in normal! takes them a while to get us to every thing! they can hold it allot longer then you think! if you've had it for a while, and this is unusually behavior, keep looking! your cat may be sick or hurt! you can wait for your house to be really quit(like at night), shack the cat food and call him. he will probably come out!!
