I have a recipe that calls for 2 boxes of cream cheese to be softened. How in the world do you get this cream cheese to soften? It's for a cheese spread that only calls the cream cheese, Armour Dried Beef. Worcestershire sauce, a bundle of green onions and Accent flavor enhancer all mixed together. But I can't get the cream cheese to soften enough to combine the ingrediants together. Can someone please help out me out with this... Many, many, MANY Thanx

I love that cheese spread recipe - yummy, good choice!

Let the cream cheese sit out on the counter for about 30 minutes, or you can microwave it for about 30-45 seconds in a microwave-safe bowl. Then use a mixer to combine your ingredients. It should blend smoothly.

There is no need to panic. put the cream cheese in a large bowl and set it on the counter with some plastic wrap over it. The heat from the room will soften the cream cheese. It shouldn't take more than an hour to get from icy cold to a spreadable consistency. Also, don't use the Accent, it's not necessary and some people have a hard time with reactions when they consume it. Accent is a glutamate made from corn. Instead add some powdered garlic (1/2 teaspoon) or minced garlic if you have it, for additional flavor.

How To Soften Cream Cheese

Time Required: 15 Seconds

Place 1 completely unwrapped package of cream cheese in a microwavable bowl or on a microwavable plate. Microwave on HIGH for 15 seconds. Add 15 seconds for each additional package of cheese.

Tips:Using a plate makes it easier to scrape the cheese off.
You might wish to turn the cheese over halfway through microwaving.

Set the packages of cream cheese out for an hour to bring it to room temperature. Beat it with a mixer to soften it.

I have used the recipe you have indicated and it was delicious.

You can remove the cream cheese from the frig. an hour or so before you need it. I do this for my cheese ball and it is close to your recipe.

This is a pain, I know. The best thing to use is a food processor- if you don't have one, try a potato masher. It basically takes a lot of work and strong arms. Good luck to you.
