How ironic that I see this question. I just bleached my hair in order to dye it back to it's original shade of light brown after having it black/dark brown for a couple years. I bought a bleach kit at sally's beauty supply, but I imagine you could find one in the hair dye isle in a drug store. Some are meant for highlights, and so don't include as much mixture, so look for the package that contains the greatest amount of bleach powder and developer. Then, you apply the bleach mix (the package will explain how), and then rinse it off after your hair has turned blond. You then apply a blue hair dye (many specialty stores will carry a decent selection of bright colors if you can't find any), and follow the dye instructions. I would check online to see which brands are best for the dye, but I figure bleach is bleach, and I wouldn't worry too much about brand. Also, after you bleach and dye your hair, it will be a little damaged and "crunchy", so buy a packet of deep conditioner, of one doesn't come with the dye. This will return your hair to the original softness etc. Email me with any questions, I would be glad to help.

it would be best to be bleached first, but if you REALLY don't want to bleach it you can still attempt it with your natural hair. Buy a LIGHT or MEDIUM blue color. if you get a dark blue, it will turn out nearly black in medium brown hair. I recommend the brand Manic Panic. You can get this at Sally's Beauty Supply, or Spencer's in the mall. And if you don't like the color it turns out, Manic Panic (as all crazy color dyes are) is semi-permanent, so it will be easy to get out. Leave it in for much longer than the suggested time, seeing as how semi-perm is not damaging to your hair at all. you can also apply heat to intensify and increase the longevity of the color. Best of luck. :]

If you have light brown hair, you could probably use the old Kool-Aid trick to get the blue color you want. Or, you could just buy the blue dye. However, I don't think you need to bleach your hair first.

Bleaching will damage the hair but will enhance the colour that you are gonna dye it. My friend dyed her hair electric purple and it looked amazing but she had to bleach it first. she bought this stuff that had prebleach and she used that but after you have dyed it pour almond oil over your hair wrap it in cling film and leave it over night, this will not only make the colour last longer but will make you hair much better conditioned.
good luck :)

I was wondering that myself. My daughter (13 years old) wants to get pink and blue streaks in her hair. She has light brown, wavy, waist length hair. I don't want her to damage her hair too much, so if you get a great answer here, please send it my way. Thanks.
