First off, let me say that I am sorry for your loss. Now, for my answer: It really depends on why you'd be getting it. If you are just getting a pup to replace your lost one, then I'd say wait, give yourself time to grieve. If you're doing it because you love animals and want to provide one with a loving home, then get one. I think you'll get another dog eventually, whether now or in a month or two, but I'm just concerned that you won't give yourself enough time to grieve. To me, losing a pet is like losing a family member, and it does take time to get over that. Sometimes having another furbaby around helps with that, sometimes it makes it harder. Please just make sure you give yourself enough time to heal.

See, I'm on the oppsite page as some of the other answerers. If you are asking this question, that means that you aren't ready. You shouldn't get another dog until you are 100% sure that it's time. Asking the advice of strangers on the internet (many of whom are children, literally) who think that *any* reason is a good one to get a dog, isn't really the answer. Rushing into getting another dog because you miss the one that you lost is NOT a good idea. Humans are notorious for making decisions based on emotion and having those decisions not being the best ones. Wait for now. A month or two won't make a difference.

And when you are ready, remember to only get one from rescue or from an ethical responsible breeder. Good luck to you and I'm very sorry for your loss.

Well, I had a wonderful Labrador in my life, and when she died, everyone & their mother tried to give me a puppy because I was sooo sad. I decided to wait for 1 year, so that I "knew" in my heart I wasn't being hasty and getting one to "replace" the other. If you want to, maybe wait for about 5 or 6 months, put your feeling about your dog in perspective, "then" get one. If you think you're ready "now?" Then by all means, get a new dog. You know if it's for the right reason or not, right? So do what feels right to "you." Good luck either way.

When I had a dog who was old and had to be put to sleep, I was greatly comforted coming home to 2 other dogs. That's just me and you have to decide if you're ready for this yet. Everyone is different as to what works for them.

If I were in your situation, I would be looking to get another dog. Not to replace one I lost, but for me, having a dog in my life is a must and I think I'd be lonely without 4 legged companionship.

There are so many dogs at the humaine society that would love to be adopted. You would be giving these dogs a second shot at life. If youre thinking about a new dog already its sounds like you are ready to get another, just need aprroval from others.
Go for it!

If you feel ready for a new puppy, go ahead and get one. But remember that the new pup is going to be different from the dog you just lost. And that's the way they should be.

Feel better and good luck!

I would wait until you are absolutely sure you are ready to get a new dog, and that you aren't just doing it in hopes of replacing the one that passed away.
Make sure you bring home a dog, because you love that dog. Not because you thought it was cute. Take time to learn the personality of that dog.

Give yourself time to grieve over the loss of your dog before getting another one. You don't want to rush into getting another dog.

I'm really sorry about your dog! You should get another dog. It will remind you of all the wonderful times that you had with your last dog.
