Pasadena has been known as the "old money" section of Los Angeles because this is the area a lot of the wealthy industrialists built their winter homes to escape the cold. As you know, the biggest event in Pasadena is New Years Eve and day with the Tournament of Roses parade and the Rose Bowl football game. The Rose Bowl hosts a monthly flea market (on the 3rd Sunday of the Month). The 'old town' area is the historic business core of downtown Pasadena, namely Colorado Blvd and the side streets, The Norton Simon museum is located within walking distance as is the Gamble House. A private home designed by the architects Greene and Greene in the bungalow style and preserved for student housing and tours by the Universsity of Southern California's School of Architecture. The Huntington Library and gardens are very close, one of the foremost private library's in the world. Also, the Los Angeles County Arboretum is just a couple of miles away and worth taking a look. The original Route 66 runs down Colorado Blvd. and is interesting to see some of the old motels and gas stations that are left behind. The Southwest Museum is also very close by in the Arroyo Seco, the dry river bottom that separates downtown Los Angeles from Pasadena. About 10 miles away. The old Busch gardens are also tucked away in the arroyo as are a couple of great golf courses, parks, horseback riding stables, etc. Disneyland is actually about 30 miles away. Check out the Huntington Hotel, bungalow Heaven and San Rafael Avenue. More filming is done on San Rafael Ave. than just about any other street in Los Angeles. The batman house known as "Wayne Manor" is located on this street. many other famous filming locations are located throughout the city.

What do you like?
I used to live in Pasadena. I did the following when folks came in from outta town:
Rose Bowl
Angeles National Forest
Rose Bowl Swap Meet
Huntington Library
JPL Tour
Lectures at Cal Tech
Playhouse on Madison Avenue
Ice House for Comedy
Olde Town for restaurants and bars
That's only Pasadena. Venture to LA, the Valley or Anaheim for other things.

Huntington Gardens and Library (technically in San Marino) are great. The gardens are spectacular, and it is lovely to take a walk around there. I second the Norton Simon museum. Old Towne is full of shops, restaurants, movie theaters (and people) and is very vibrant.
