If you want to be like that...than why isn't Florida called Flowered Nevada - Snowed...Or Santa Fé - Holy Faith)
Or Corpus Christi called Body of Christ?
These places were named by their founders, who spoke the languages in which they gave them their names...(well most of 'em...Corpus Christi is latin)...And almost all of these original names have remained to this day, in honour and respect for the founders....

Another thing...Actually Los Angeles was originally named
El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles de la Porciúncula...
No wonder it has ended up being L.A.!...
Who could pronounce that mouthful!
:-D
Que Vivan!!! Y viva España tambien!!!

originally all of these places were named by the Spaniards and when they became Mexican land there was no need to change the names and when they became American land most of the inhabitants were Mexican that became American citizens and also they saw no need to change the names, other territories that became American owned kept the original Indian names like Kentucky, Milwaukee and several more
